SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

All times are BST (UTC + 1 hour)

 

  1. Rules

Racing will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), RYA prescriptions, appropriate class rules and the sailing instructions.

 

  1. Entries

The race is open to mono-hull cruising/racing yachts belonging to a recognised yacht club.  Yachts shall have third party and passenger liability insurance to at least £2 million sterling. Where no RYA NHC base number is available, the RO will allocate a number based on the information given.

 

  1. Safety

The safety of a yacht and her entire management including insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the owner/person in charge who must ensure that the boat and crew are adequate to face the conditions that may arise.  These sailing instructions neither limit nor reduce the absolute responsibility of the owner/person in charge for the crew, the boat and her entire management.  The Isle of Man Yacht Club and Baker Tilly will not be responsible for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner/person in charge or crew, as a result of their taking part.  Moreover, every owner/person in charge warrants the suitability of the boat and her equipment.

Minimum equipment requirements: bow pulpit and guard-lines (to ORC Special Regulations Category-3 standard), storm-jib, lifelines and deck harnesses, flares, life-buoy, lifejackets, fire extinguisher, life-raft or dinghy, navigation lights, suitable anchor with chain and warp, efficient bilge pump, fog horn, radar reflector, spare compass and first aid kit.

 

  1. Notices to Competitors

Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board in the club foyer.

 

  1. Changes to Sailing Instructions

Any changes to sailing instructions will be posted no later than one hour before the start time.

 

  1. Starting
  • Start time: 0600
  • Starting signals: Code flags will be flown from the flagpole at the end of Alfred Pier. Warning signal code flag “Numeral 1”
  • The race will be started using Rule 26.
  • The Start/Finish line will be between the flagpole on the end of Alfred Pier and an outer limit mark (orange float) towards Carthure Perch.
  • Recalls will be in accordance with rule 29. Rule 30 will not apply.
  1. Course

Round the Isle of Man anti-clockwise leaving the Calf of Man to port.

  1. Finishing
  • The Finish line will be between the flagpole on the end of Alfred Pier and the outer limit mark (orange float) towards Carthure Perch.
  • Competitors will take their own finishing time although it is anticipated that the RO will be on station. If finishing in the hours of darkness yachts will identify themselves by shining a light on their sail number or by some other means.  (e.g. VHF Channel 37A)
  • All entrants will complete declaration cards (available in the club lounge).
  • Retirements must be reported as soon as possible to the RO, or phone the IOMYC on 01624 832088 (answerphone).
  1. Time Limit

RRS Rule 35 will not apply.  The time limit will be thirty hours from the start time.

 

  1. Protests

Protests will be written on RYA forms available at the club office and delivered to the RO or

other club official within on one hour of the last boat’s finish time.

 

Competitors are invited to come ashore immediately after finishing the race for a meal at the club. The bar will remain open as required.
