TRAINING SECTION
RYA COURSES -WINTER 2008/2009
The Isle of Man Yacht Club is
a Royal Yachting Association Recognised Teaching Establishment. Over
the winter of 2008/2009 the club will be running one of the RYA
shorebased course listed below - Subject to demand.
Course: Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster
Duration: Wednesdays commencing Wednesday 1st October for 22 weeks.
From 1900 to 2100hrs, plus minimum 2 hrs home study
per week.
To complete the course work you will have to attend a
minimum of 90% of the classes.
Description:
Navigation, weather, safety, tidal heights, pilotage, collision
regulations and electronic navigation.
Access to computer will be required for
one homework session. Those that do not have a computer can
complete
the work in the
classroom, where a laptop will be available. NB The level of
computer work is very basic and
any student that has no computer
skills will be given any
instruction required to use the software.
Experience:
No previous experience is required for the Day Skipper course but
some practical experience & previous theory
instruction would be
preferable for the Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster course.
