Discover Watersports - IOMYC Open Day

28th May 2022, 10:00 - 16:00

The Isle of Man Yacht Club is holding an open day to show case all things on water.

On water try your hand at keelboat or dinghy sailing, windsurfing or paddleboarding or have a trip in a fast rib. Or maybe you want to have a look at some boats on the hard and learn about the safety gear and what makes a boat go faster! All activities are free.

On shore side the Club House will be open serving beverages and snacks, the big screen will be on and members will be around to have a chat and share some stories. When the on water activities have finished you may want to stay on for drinks and a free BBQ on the terrace (from 4pm).

Programme for the day - on water

Some of the activities on the day can be pre booked before the day to be sure of securing a slot:

  • dinghy sailing
  • keelboat sailing
  • windsurfing (if you have little or no experience you will need to do a 1 hr Friday evening land based intro session)
  • paddleboarding

Other activities do not need to be pre booked and you can turn up on the day and book your slot.

  • trip in a rib
  • boat familiarisation (on the hard)

Club House activities

You are welcome to visit the Club House at any time. This could be before your activity, after your activity or whilst waiting for someone who is doing an activity.

The big screen will be on with on water type stuff being shown. Beverages and snacks will be available all day.

We will have information packs on training courses (open to non-members) and membership packs for those who may want to visit us more often!

Evening BBQ

Everyone is invited to stay for a BBQ starting at 4pm. The Club House bar will also be open. Booking for the BBQ is required so we can cater accordingly. This is no fancy BBQ, members provide the food and we are happy to share :)

Arrival and booking in on the day

All visitors (regardless of activity and even if simply visiting the club house) will need to sign in and those undertaking activities will also need to sign a consent form. Our reception desk will be open between 10am and midday. After 12 midday please sign in at the bar.
Any age limit for activities will be advised when booking.

Clothing and Safety Gear

For keelboat sailing or a trip on a rib we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and footwear that you don't mind getting wet (just in case!). If the weather isn't very warm a windproof coat would be beneficial. We can provide a certain number of buoyancy aids from our store (please note our stock is only suitable for people weighing over 15kgs) - if you have your own or can borrow then please bring with you.

For windsurfing, paddleboarding and dinghy sailing please come with a wetsuit and buoyancy aid - bring your own or borrow. There are changing facilities in the Club House.

Parking

There is very limited parking at the Yacht Club so we recommend that if you can, grab a bus, walk or car share. If coming by car, please park near by and then take a short stroll to the Yacht Club.

This event is WEATHER DEPENDENT so please check HERE on the day before you travel.

Join us for what promises to be a great day at the Isle of Man Yacht Club in Port St Mary.
