RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 2
Learning to sail in a dinghy is a great way to get started on the water. The Youth Sailing scheme courses will see children quickly progress from beginners to confident sailors in a safe and enjoyable environment.
This is the developer group. These children will have already achieved their RYA Stage 1 and will be sailing their own dinghies with another child working towards their RYA Stage 2.
Children will be in double handed boats. Either Laser Picos or RS Teras.
Required experience
Sailing skills to the standard of Stage 1
Course Content
- Improved sailing skills on all points of sail.
- Tacking
- Gybing
- Ropework
- Collision avoidance
- Speed control
Develop the skills needed to sail around a course and understand the basic principles needed to become a confident sailor
As this course is held in a small dinghy, children should wear:
- Swimming costume for underwear
- Wetsuit
-Waterproof/windproof jacket to keep the wind off the upper body
- Warm hat
- Shoes that can (and will) get wet
We suggest children wear a lycra skin or rash vest under the wetsuit, not a cotton t-shirt. Cotton remains wet and will prevent the wetsuit from warming the body.
