RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 1

A 4 week course for children aged 8-12. Based on the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme, but conducted in our Hawk 20 Keelboat.

Learning to sail in a keelboat is a great way to get started on the water. The Youth Sailing scheme courses will see children quickly progress from beginners to confident sailors in a safe and enjoyable environment. They will be under the watchful eye of a qualified instructor who will be in the boat with them.

Sailing across the wind

Turning around

Steering and basic parts of the boat

Wind awareness

We are the only RYA Training Centre on the Isle of Man that offers this nicer introduction to sailing in a larger and safer boat.

As this course is held in a keelboat, children should wear:

- Warm clothing

- A waterproof jacket

- A warm hat

- Trainers that may get wet

Buoyancy aids will be provided.

Children will get a log book to follow their progress in.
